Family Heritage Funeral Home History

Family Heritage Funeral Home is a new business started in February of 2006, with a lot of heritage from the Gallatin area. Tony Alexander and Sue Newby Alexander purchased the funeral home at 100 Albert Gallatin Avenue with the blessings of Tony's parents, Paul D. Alexander and Rubye Anne Alexander, along with his sister and brother-in-law Paula and Bill Troutt.

Tony Alexander, and his family, owned and operated Alexander Funeral Home from1908 until 1991. Working with the Alexander family in their business was Terry Crockett (funeral director/embalmer for 35 years), Kenneth Parker (funeral director/embalmer for 30 years), Tommy Womack (funeral assistant for 15 years), Wayne Vantrease (funeral assistant for 3 years), and Rhonda Crockett (funeral assistant, insurance agent, pre-need counselor for 7 years).

In 1977, the Newbys purchased the Donoho Funeral Home. They changed the name of the funeral home to Newby Funeral Home and the Newbys ran it until 1995 when the home was sold. Sue Newby continued with the funeral home as manager/funeral director until 2006.

Janice Leonard (funeral director, insurance agent, pre-need counselor) worked with Sue at Newby's for 9 years. Sammye Richardson joined the funeral home 5 years ago as an office assistant. We all decided that we could serve our families better if we were a locally family owned funeral home again; therefore, we all came together to make FAMILY HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME.
